Experience
"Wild Portugal"We offer a variety of guided walks in the Beira Beixa region – from Fundão to Idanha-a-Nova, from the Gardunha mountains to the wild Malcatta Nature Reserve, from Castelo Branco to the Spanish border.
Discover the Beira Beixa region of Portugal which covers some of the most rural and unspoilt areas left in the country.
Discover Unspoilt Countryside
Walks can take in a village or two, cross wide open countryside, go through cherry and peach orchards, or pine and chestnut plantations. They follow tracks, paths and the occasional road, along rivers and up steep slopes, winding through beautiful scenery and panoramic views.
Being outside and walking through the scenery gives you a sense of authentically rural Portugal and a fast disappearing way of life.

The wildlife in this region is fantastic, and we are continually being amazed and excited at what we find when we are out, anything from orchids to snakes, and butterflies to tree frogs!
You may have a flock of gloriously coloured bee-eaters with their delicate calls flying overhead, or a kettle of huge Griffon vultures circling above you depending on your route or the season.
The vegetation changes from season to season – from carpets of spring flowers to the spectacular displays of autumn leaves.
Whatever time of year you come to Portugal, there is always something to see or to discover!
Create a unique memory
With walks catering for various levels of fitness and interest!
Walking lets you experience some of the lesser known sights, and wilder areas left in this region, and adds another dimension to some very popular sites.
All too often, walking is just that – a way of getting from A to B, or just to get some exercise. Britstad want to add to the experience by pointing out and identifying some of the wildlife on the way, filling in some of the history of the area, or just taking you somewhere that on your own, you might not go.
A walk can take 2 hours or 6 depending on your chosen route and they cover a variety of terrains and habitats.
Our Walks
Many scientific reports these days show how being in nature makes us feel calm, happy, and less stressed. The beauty and history of this area alone might be enough to get you along, or perhaps the health benefits of being outdoors will.
Walks start from €30 for 2-3 people, and from €8 per additional person depending on the route chosen.
Maximum group size is 10 people.
A full day combining 2 shorter walks in a similar area can be organised. If you have any particular interests or passions and would like to know if we have a walk that incorporates them – contact us. We may have one already or may be able to tailor-make one for you.
